9 APRIL, 2022 - SHANK MEDIA, BY MATT HOOPER: A 90th minute own goal condemned Swindon to a painful and potentially critical defeat in the race for the playoffs on a sunny afternoon in Wiltshire.

The game, between 9th and 8th in the table coming into it, was tight and featured only rare moments of quality. Swindon had 64% of the ball, but struggled to create enough clear cut chances, aside from a header from Josh Davison, which was ruled out for offside in the first half. In fact the home side were profligate in front of goal, only hitting the target twice from their 12 shots.

And this inability to turn possession into chances, and chances into goals cost them right at the end of the game, when defender Dion Conroy could only turn the ball into his own net after Finn Azaz went round goalkeeper Joe Wollacott.

Newport move into the playoff places, whilst Swindon drop to 11th, 4 points off the playoffs with a game in hand, but only 6 to play.

SHANK will have more football next weekend when we return to Gayfield Park for the crucial Cinch SPFL Championship game between Arbroath and Queen of the South on Saturday.
