St Andrews United suffered a punishing defeat at Clayton Caravan Park Recreation Ground to Dundee's East Craigie as their poor pre-season form continued.
The Tayside outfit were by far the more accomplished side, despite playing in a division below the hosts, and the score could have been much more embarrassing for a disjointed St Andrews team.
A confident, organised East Craigie took the lead as Adam Brown was slipped through to pass the ball past St Andrews United goalkeeper Kyle Moran. The visitors extended their lead with a well-driven shot from the edge of the penalty area prior to half-time, and put the result beyond any doubt with a goal early in the second half.
United struggled to keep possession and failed to supply their forward players, with Jake Grady feeding off scraps. The home side had to rely upon rare set-pieces to threaten the East Craigie goal, but failed to make anything of them when they did get a corner.
United were without recent signing Fraser Anderson, who was isolating after catching Covid19.
This was United's fourth pre-season friendly, and the beating took their goals against tally to 10, without hitting the back of the net themselves.
Their preparations for the 2021/22 East of Scotland First Division Conference A season conclude this coming week with a home game against Coupar Angus on Tuesday and a visit to Tayport next Saturday (10 July).
This is St Andrews will have coverage of St Andrews United's matches throughout the season, continuing this Tuesday evening.
