The Super Bowl is always a huge TV day in the United States of America, with almost all major broadcasters having some kind of Super Bowl coverage, aside from the rights holder for Super Bowl LIX - FOX. But in 2025 the Super Bowl is now a huge TV and streaming day in the UK, more than 40 years after the first Super Bowl was shown live on Channel 4. Channel 4 was the home of the NFL for more than 16 years, in its first week on air it covered the sport, and was the first broadcaster in the UK to show the Super Bowl, doing so up until Super Bowl XXXII in 1998, when Channel 5 assumed the role of terrestrial broadcaster in the UK.

Sky Sports has been the home of the NFL in the UK since 1995, and has shown every Super Bowl since.
Channel 5 held the terrestrial rights from 1998 through until 2004, before ITV stepped in to show the Super Bowl in 2006 and 2007, with BBC holding the rights from 2008 to 2012. Channel 4 returned to be the UK terrestrial rights holder in 2013 for 2 seasons, before BBC took another stab at the NFL from 2015 to 2022. ITV became the rights holder in 2023, but cancelled their weekly NFL highlights show shortly before the 2024 season, they continue to show two London Games, and the Super Bowl Live.
It remains to be seen which terrestrial network will hold the rights in the future, but the romantics among us would love to see Channel 4 come back and really invest in the sport again.
