In 2021 This is St Andrews will bring you comprehensive coverage of the significant golf events at amateur and professional level across St Andrews, our season begins on Sunday 16 May, with an event which is among the oldest in the whole sport, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club Local Golf Clubs' Gold Medal.
Here are the key dates for 2021:
16 May - R&A LOCAL CLUBS' GOLD MEDAL
First played in 1890, the R&A Local Clubs' Gold Medal is the elite stroke play tournament for amateur golf club members in St Andrews. Ben Caton won the title in 2020, after tying for first in 2019 with John Paterson, Paterson was awarded the medal on countback. A Women's Gold Medal was introduced in 2017.
28-30 May - ST RULE TROPHY
First played in 1984 the St Rule Trophy is a premier amateur tournament for amateur female golfers in Europe, and its past champions include Annika Sorenstam, Catriona Matthew and Melissa Reid. The defending champion is Haze Macgarvie, Macgarvie won with a record low score in 2019. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic.
3-6 June - ST ANDREWS LINKS TROPHY
First played in 1989 the St Andrews Links Trophy is a premier amateur tournament for amateur male golfers in Europe, and its past champions include Justin Rose and Tom Lewis. The defending champion is Jake Burnage, who defeated Matty Lamb in the a dramatic final round in 2019. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic.
2-5 August - ST ANDREWS LADIES JUNIOR OPEN AND BOYS OPEN; STRATHTYRUM TOURNAMENT AND EDEN TOURNAMENT
The August Tournaments are a St Andrews tradition and offer juniors and club golfers the chance to compete at the home of golf. More information here.
5-8 August - HERO OPEN
The Hero Open comes to the Fairmont St Andrews this August. The Torrance Course hosts its second European Tour event after last year's Axa Scottish Championship, which was won by Spaniard Adrián Otaegui, who defeated Matt Wallace by 4 shots. 
18 September - THE TOWN MATCH
The biggest and most unique golf match in the world sees the Royal and Ancient Golf Club take on the members of the New Golf Club and St Andrews Golf Club.
27 September-3 October - ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP
St Andrews' annual autumn tradition since 1985. The Alfred Dunhill Links returns after cancellation due to the Covid19 pandemic in 2020.
